We've changed our name (formerly
Her Feet on the Earth) and have
transformed into a new organization. We are now Feet on the Earth Programs, a
non-profit incorporated in the state of Colorado.
Why the change?
To better pursue our broader mission -
supporting children and adults to develop deeper relationships with
nature, self, community, and the sacred through
long-term nature
connection mentoring andcommunity-based wilderness rites of
passage - while still providing quality, empowering
programs for girls and women.
Our vision
is to help raise young people who are ready to meet life's challenges
and be of service in the world: youth who have a positive sense of
themselves as young women and men; who know what their gifts are; feel
deeply connected with nature; have strong community support; and are
full of resilience and vitality.
To
do this we are committed to providing long-term, nature-based mentoring
programs to children and adults with the intention of building a
strong,
nature-connected community that can support meaningful rites of passage
for children as they enter adolescence, teens as they enter adulthood,
and adults as they move through life's journey.
Our plan includes offering co-ed
programs for children up to age 10. From age 11 to 15, we split boys
and girls into separate programs, because the
middle school years are such an important time for building a positive
sense of identity as a girl or boy and single-sex programs best meet
this need. These programs lay a foundation that will
prepare children for a
community-supported, wilderness rites of passage at age 14 or 15. After
their rites of passage, participants are invited to join our teen
leadership programs that include "sister" and "brother" councils. We
also provide training for adults and families in earth-living
skills
and deep nature connection mentoring.
We
currently offer a
weekly nature arts program for children 7-10 years old,
Raccoon
Clan, one for girls 11-15 years old, Bear
Clan and a weekly nature
adventure program for boys 11-15 years old, Coyote Clan.
We
also offer Osprey
Circle, a
weekly nature arts program for children 6-10 years old that
takes place in Denver and Raven Circle, an after school program for
girls 9-10. Contact us for details.
As
we move forward, we will be adding new summer camps, after school and
weekend programs, and creating partnerships with schools and community
organizations.
